Sports Performance
The increasing need for investment in sport and in athlete and coach development has been discussed at length in the media with the UK at the forefront of hosting International sporting events. Bath has a well-established tradition of innovation in athlete and coach education, achieved through combining coaching, athletic performance and academic endeavours.
The University has invested extensively over the last few years to create a range of sports and recreation facilities on campus. A Sports Training Village complex, built with financial help from the National Lottery and National Governing Bodies for sport, offers superb facilities. Recognised as the English Institute of Sport for the South West, part of a National Network, the University of Bath now constitutes the premier sports training facility in the United Kingdom.
These sports facilities and services are among the best in the world, in keeping with the University of Bath’s international reputation as an academic institute, noted for its research, teaching and applied learning.
There are two Sports Performance degrees on offer on our Bath campus.
The 2 year Foundation Degree enables students to integrate sports training and academic study. Course units allow students to develop skills and knowledge in several areas relevant to training and competition, from their own physical conditioning to performance analysis. The programme is designed to appeal to those students performing at a very high standard in their chosen sport. On completion of the Foundation at the required academic standard, there is an opportunity to progress to the BSc (Hons) in Sport (Sport Performance) (Work Based Learning).
The BSc (Hons) in Sport (Sport Performance) (Work Based Learning) is a one year programme aimed at students who have successfully completed an HND or Foundation Degree in a related subject. The degree builds on the expertise acquired from earlier study and further develops the critical, analytical and reflective approach valued by employers. This programme is designed to appeal to those students who have shown strong academic performance in their previous studies.
Placement
It is expected that students will be in full time training (or equivalent to) or have access to professional experiences in a relevant setting. Access to such arrangements is required for successful completion of the work-based assignments within the programme.
