Why study Politics at Bath?

As the process of globalisation subjects the established order to ever accelerating change, and as domestic life becomes vulnerable to new security and environmental threats, there are few more exciting and relevant disciplines than those of Politics and International Relations. The Politics degree schemes offered in the Department of European Studies and Modern Languages explore and make sense of contemporary problems and issues relating to politics, international relations and political economy. Option choices allow flexibility and opportunities for specialisation from the first year of the programme.

The Department has been praised in recent years for its teaching excellence and for its internationally acclaimed research. The University of Bath is consistently ranked highly in league tables (please refer to our website for the latest details).

Both staff and students in the Department have an increasingly international flavour which contributes to the vibrant and flourishing atmosphere.

What degree programmes do we offer?

The BSc in Politics with International Relations can be studied as a 3 or 4 year scheme with or without a year long placement. Political Science, International Relations, Political Economy and other social sciences are integrated to expose students to a wide range of disciplines and methods.

The BSc in Politics with Economics can also be studied in 3 or 4 year versions and is designed for those who want to combine the disciplines of political science with economics but want to concentrate on the politics rather than more quantitative methods. The programme is carefully structured to provide a comprehensive foundation in economics whilst concentrating the focus on the politics side.

The BA in a European Language and Politics allows students to master one European language and in their complementary politics studies, taught in English, to understand some of the social, political and economic changes affecting Europe and the world. Language study is reinforced by the year abroad which is taken in the third year of the programme (a second language can be studied as an option).

All the Politics degrees have the final year dissertation.
