The Foundation Year is targeted at capable applicants who do not have the appropriate academic background to allow them direct entry into a University of Bath degree programme or a programme at another university in the UK.

During the Foundation Year you will be registered as a student at the University of Bath but you will be taught at one of the colleges. Both colleges cater for international students, while City of Bath College caters for international and UK/EU students. The colleges provide a high standard of teaching and personal tuition. The teaching staff have extensive experience in teaching at Foundation Level.

During this year you will develop the core knowledge and skills necessary to progress to Year 1 of your chosen degree. On successful completion of Year 0, provided you have reached the required academic standard, you are guaranteed a place on Year 1 of a degree course at the University of Bath in one of the following disciplines: Accounting and Finance, Biology, Biochemistry, Business Administration, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Mathematical Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Medical Engineering, Pharmacy, Pharmacology, Physics, Politics, Psychology, Social Sciences and Sports Engineering.

Assessment
Each unit is assessed on coursework (assignments, Laboratory reports, exercises and tests) and on an end of unit examination. The standard of assessments is that of A-level and students will be expected to achieve those grades normally required for direct entry onto the first year of the degree course.

The course requires a minimum English Language ability of IELTS 5.5, applicants below this grade should consider prior study in order to achieve this grade. For a full list of acceptable English qualifications please either contact us or refer to our website.
