Student Support Services
The University is concerned not only with its students’ academic progress, but also with their personal development and wellbeing. Information, advice and practical help are available from many sources on campus. These include:
- The Student Services Helpdesk for general enquiries relating to student support.
Tel: +44 (0) 1225 385538 | Email - Resident Tutors, many of whom are postgraduates themselves, and provide the first line of support for those in University residential accommodation.
- the Postgraduate Association and the Students’ Union provide welfare advice, representation, education and training, as well as support for special interest groups, such as the Student Parents Group and the Mature Students Group. There are also excellent opportunities for volunteering and community action.
- the Student Money Service can advise and may be able to offer practical help on all aspects of money and finances.
- the Learning Support Service provides the first point of contact for all students with disabilities and/or learning difficulties, runs a specialist dyslexia support service and co-ordinates alternative arrangements for exams and assessments.
All these services, together with the Counselling Service, Medical and Dental Services, International Office, Chaplaincy, sports and creative arts facilities, and the others outlined in this Prospectus, exist to serve your needs and we genuinely welcome constructive feedback and suggestions on how to improve our services to postgraduate students.

Childcare services
Westwood Nursery provides high quality day care on campus for 48 children from the age of 6 months to school entry age. The Nursery is open for 48 weeks of the year but student parents can have the choice of a term-time only place.
Help may be available from a Childcare Grant for those who find the fees a problem (contact the Student Money Service for more information). Other childcare services include a half-term and vacation playscheme. Student parents are represented on the Childcare Advisory Group, which meets once a term.
For enquiries about the Nursery and/or to register on the waiting list, please contact the Childcare Services Manager. Places in the Nursery are subject to availability.

Chaplaincy
The University Chaplaincy Centre, in the heart of the campus, welcomes people of all faiths or none. A Chaplain is on call for all students and staff every day. The ecumenical team works closely with leaders of several faiths. The Chaplaincy offers an active programme of daily prayer, worship, public lectures, seminars and discussion groups, and special trips. Also on campus there are rooms, with washing facilities, set aside for Muslim prayers (Norwood House Level 4 South End). There are active Christian, Muslim and Jewish student societies on campus. Contact the University Chaplain, Angela Berners-Wilson, for a list of these, and all the faith communities and places of prayer in Bath and Bristol, or visit the Chaplaincy website.
