MSc in Mathematical Biology

Qualifications and durations
Overview

An exciting new MSc in Mathematical Biology which aims to recruit graduates in the mathematical sciences. The programme provides students with an understanding of the types of problems that biologists engage with and empowers them to understand how mathematics can help to address these problems. Students will be given training in techniques of modelling biological systems and will have opportunities to explore a wide range of biological concepts and systems. These will include: chemotaxis, developmental biology, ecology and population biology, enzyme kinetics, epidemiology, evolution, genome science, immunology, neuroscience, structural biology, trafficking and signalling. The programme will also include training in the biological techniques required to carry out field work and data collection. The programme will be co-ordinated in the Department of Mathematical Sciences but will be taught jointly between this Department and the Department of Biology and Biochemistry.

Academic entry requirements

First or upper second class honours degree or equivalent in a science or engineering degree with a high mathematical content.
