All International Development Postgraduate Taught Masters Programmes
Minimum academic entry Requirements
- A good first degree in a social science subject, or
- an equivalent degree in another subject, together with substantial relevant work experience.
Underlying these conditions is a belief that students must bring a minimum combination of theoretical knowledge and practical experience to the programme. Marginal cases are often dealt with at interview, and it is not uncommon for relatively inexperienced students to be asked to defer entry.
Minimum English requirements
IELTS 7.0 (with not less than 6.5 in each of the four components);
TOEFL 600 (paper-based test) or 250 (computer-based test) with a score of not less than 4 in TWE or 100 (internet-based test) with not less than 24 in each of the components.
The MSc/MRes programmes in International Development consist of a 9-month taught component (comprising 2 semesters) and a 3-month dissertation over the summer during which students carry out a piece of independent research using the tools/knowledge gained during the taught component of the programme. A PG Certificate and a PG Diploma are available as intermediate qualifications on all MSc/MRes programmes. Full-time and part-time study options are also available. Individual units are also available as standalone units for Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Specifically:
| Full-time MSc | 1 year |
| Full-time PG Diploma (semesters 1 & 2) | 9 months |
| Full-time PG Certificate (semester 1) | 4 months |
| Part-time MSc | 2 years |
| Part-time PG Diploma | 21 months |
