Overview
The aim of the course is to provide experience in a wide range of laboratory techniques and enhance specialist knowledge in chemistry. Research projects may be chosen from any area of computational, physical, inorganic or organic chemistry. Course components include an advanced chemistry practical unit, two research projects, taught units in advanced chemistry, modules in transferable skills. It is a self-contained qualification, and graduates will be well-suited for posts in all sectors of the chemical industry, including the pharmaceutical industry and government institutions. It may also form the first year of a four year integrated PhD programme.
Academic entry requirements
2.1 or higher first degree (or equivalent) in the physical sciences. Students may also enter the programme of study with a taught Masters degree in an appropriate subject.
English requirements
For those with English as a second language, a minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5 (with not less than 6.0 in each of the four components), or equivalent, is normally required. Pre-sessional English language training may be offered to help some applicants to obtain this level of attainment.
