MPhil in Innovative Structural Engineering
Qualifications and durations
- Full-time MPhil 12 months
Overview
The MPhil degree in Innovative Structural Engineering is a 12-month full-time course during which the student undertakes a supervised research project investigating some aspect of creative and innovative structural engineering. At the same time, the student attends four taught option courses dealing with various aspects of advanced engineering design. The combination of research and lecture courses provides the student with a full appreciation for the creative possibilities available to structural engineers. The degree aims to act as a bridge between undergraduate learning and independent research activity in the field of creative structural engineering, and to enthuse students about the possibilities of creative structural design, as opposed to structural analysis only. Whilst the degree offers students a design-oriented perspective into structural engineering, it also equips them with the skills required to undertake independent research. It is possible to extend the research to Doctoral level should the student wish to do so.
