Overview
The programme provides training in structural and architectural conservation, within an academic framework of architectural history and theory, including the philosophy of conservation. Graduates find employment either as consultants on matters relating to conservation; in architectural, surveying or engineering practices; or as conservation officers in governmental and non-governmental organisations. The programme is taught by leading architects, structural engineers and related professionals, based on the Department's well established tradition of interdisciplinary education and training. The MSc in the Conservation of Historic Buildings is organised in four taught modules: Structural Conservation; Materials, Construction and Skills; History and Theory; and the Legislative Framework. Students taking the MSc also complete a dissertation.
Academic entry requirements
Open to engineers, architects and suitably qualified surveyors, planners, geographers, archaeologists, historians and managers with a first degree or equivalent professional qualification or relevant experience.
English requirements
IELTS 7.0 (with not less than 6.5 in each of the four components).
TOEFL 600 (paper-based test) or 250 (computer-based test) with a score of not less than 4 in TWE or 100 (internet-based test) with not less than 24 in each of the components.
