The English Language Centre
The English Language Centre provides Academic English language classes and support for the University’s international student population as well as a range of specialised courses for people intending to study at the University of Bath.
Pre-Study Courses
- Pre-sessional Courses Five and ten week intensive pre-study preparation courses for students moving on to undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the University of Bath or other UK universities.
- Pre-MBA/Pre-MSc Management Four week preparation course (21 teaching days, August - September) for students enrolled on MBA and MSc in Management courses in the School of Management at the University of Bath.
- English for University Study (EUS) 10 - 32 weeks: one, two or three term entry (October - June). Intensive preparation course for students intending to enrol on undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the University of Bath or other UK universities.
- Pre-Masters in English for Business and Management (EBM) 10 - 32 weeks: one, two or three term entry (October - June). Intensive preparation course for students intending to enrol on postgraduate business and management courses at the University of Bath or other UK universities.
- English Language and Culture Two-week intensive General English courses (July - August).
- IELTS Exam Preparation and Testing The ELC is an official IELTS test-centre. IELTS tests are held at the University of Bath at least once a month.
In-sessional Courses for registered students of the University of Bath
All international students are entitled to three hours per week of in-sessional classes, free of charge. These include:
- Academic Writing: develops students’ essay-writing, report-writing and dissertation-writing skills.
- Spoken English: develops students’ skills in giving presentations, listening to lectures and participating in seminars, and improves everyday English.
- Reading and Vocabulary: develops students’ reading skills and helps to increase their general and subject-specific vocabulary.
- English for Business: develops Business students’ spoken and written English using appropriate business materials.
- Cambridge English Examination Classes: prepare students for Cambridge First Certificate, Advanced English and Proficiency in English examinations.
For students whose mother tongue is English
- Effective Writing for Native Speakers of English: develops students’ essay writing skills and helps them raise the standard of their degree course work.
