Can I request a deferred year of entry?
At Bath we view gap years positively and are happy to consider applicants who intend to take, or are currently taking a gap year. Some Departments however, do no consider applicants who are asking for deferred entry but prefer them to apply during the gap year. Please see the Prospectus at http://www.bath.ac.uk/prospectus/undergrad/ for details relating to your course, or for contact details for the Department.
What are the entry requirements for undergraduate study at the University of Bath?
Entry requirements vary depending on the chosen programme of study. Please visit http://www.bath.ac.uk/prospectus/undergrad, or the appropriate departmental website at http://www.bath.ac.uk/departments/#az for up to date requirements for your preferred course.
Please remember that our publicised requirements are only to give you an idea of the sort of grades we usually ask for and the actual grades required may be different. Many of our programmes are very competitive so being predicted the grades indicated in the Prospectus does not guarantee an offer. Admissions tutors will base their decision on all the information on your UCAS form, and in some cases on an interview.
What qualifications are accepted by the University of Bath?
The University of Bath is happy to consider a wide range of qualifications for its courses.
We give an indication of entry requirements for all of our courses in terms of A levels. We make grade offers for all Bachelor and Integrated Master degrees but for Foundation Degrees we may also make offers in terms of tariff points, or a mixture of the two. Applicants may also offer a mixture of Applied and 'traditional' A levels, and BTEC and OCR Awards, Certificates and Diplomas. We are happy to consider applicants with Access Qualifications. We would normally require Advanced Highers from applicants from Scotland. If you have any doubt about the qualification you hold, please contact the Admissions Tutor as listed in the prospectus.
We have long experience of the International Baccalaureate and our requirements are given in factfiles in our undergraduate prospectus. Offers are made on the basis of the full Diploma including bonus points; for most courses, specific subjects and grades are required at Higher level. Please visit http://www.bath.ac.uk/prospectus/undergrad for details relating to your preferred course.
We are very happy to consider applications from students with a wide range of international qualifications, such as US Advanced Placement (AP) and Scholastic Aptitude Tests (SATs), South Australian and Ontario qualifications, the European Baccalaureate and a range of European Examinations. If you are not sure whether your particular qualifications are suitable take a look at our Country Information. If you cannot find what you are looking for get in touch with the Admissions Tutor or International Office and we will be happy help.
Potential applicants without traditional entry requirements are welcome to contact the Admissions Tutor or Admissions Office for advice.
What if I am unlikely to meet published entry requirements?
All applications are considered on individual merit, taking into account a range of factors including GCSE (or equivalent) performance, AS levels and A level predictions, your Personal Statement and reference. Please remember that our publicised requirements are only to give you an idea of the sort of grades we usually ask for and the actual grades required may differ.
Many of our programmes are very competitive, so please be aware that many of our applicants have predicted grades close to those we require. Any application you submit will be very carefully considered.
What are the English language requirements for entry?
In order to gain maximum benefit from their course, applicants whose first language is not English will need to provide evidence that they are able to speak, write and understand English with a high level of proficiency. We recognise English Language tests such as IELTS and TOEFL for which minimum requirements for most undergraduate programmes are as follows:
- IELTS 6.0
- TOEFL 580 (paper test)
- TOEFL 237 (computer test)
- TOEFL 80 (internet test)
Please note that more linguistically demanding programmes have higher requirements. Please read the information in the prospectus http://www.bath.ac.uk/prospectus/undergrad or contact the department for advice.
If applicants do not meet the stated requirements, they may be permitted to attend a pre-sessional course if they are in receipt of a conditional offer. For more information on courses offered by the University’s English Language Centre please visit http://www.bath.ac.uk/elc/
