Widening Participation
Encouraging Diversity
Bath is a lively and diverse community, with students from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures. We value this and believe that it contributes greatly to a stimulating and challenging learning environment. If no one else in your family has been to university, or not many of your friends are planning to go, you will find Bath a friendly place to live and work. Our size may also help because it makes it easy to manage day-to-day business and routines. Individual advice and help on money matters before you start as well as during your course is also a distinctive feature of our University.
For those with young children, we offer a high quality campus day nursery. There is also learning support for students with learning difficulties or special needs. There is help with finding part-time work while you study, a strong Students’ Union to represent your interests, careers advice and guidance, and support with finding appropriate employment at the end of your programme.
There are also lots of opportunities for current students to get involved with the work we are doing in schools and colleges throughout our region. This work aims to promote the benefits and opportunities attached to higher education to pupils and their parents. We run campus visits for students in Years 7, 9, 10 and 12. Current students help in organising these days, running workshops on what they are gaining from University, how they are managing financially, and how they want to develop their careers. University staff and Students' Union teams also work offcampus, acting as mentors and ambassadors in schools and colleges throughout the region. To find out more about the full range of activities we are involved in please go to our Education Liaison Activity page.
One of our key messages at Bath is that we are interested in the whole person. We do select on the basis of academic performance and examination results but these are by no means our only criteria. We are always interested in the context in which you have been studying and any factors which might have caused specific difficulties or disruption. Schools and colleges should contact the Student Recruitment and Admissions Office if there are any details which might help our Admissions Tutors gain a better understanding of a candidate's context and potential.
