Specialisms
Archaea, biochemistry, enzymes, extremophiles, microbiology. Extremophiles
are organisms that grow optimally in extreme environments of temperature
(80-120C or <10C), salinity (5M NaCl), pH (<4
and
>9) and/or pressure (>400 atmospheres); my research is focused
on the enzymes from extremophiles and aims to understand the structural
basis
of their hyperstability and how they might be used in biotechnology.
