Written: Parkpoom PhetpradapOn Sunday 24 February from 9am to 7pm, the Samaggi Samagom held their Samaggi Games, the annual sports competition for Thai Students in the United Kingdom, at Founders Sport hall and Sport Training Village, University of Bath.
The opening ceremony started at 9am with over 1000 Thais from thirty six UK universities, including Bath University Thai Association (BUTA). The competition included football, basketball, volleyball, chairball, sepak takrow, badminton, tennis, table tennis, squash and international chess. Most players enjoyed the superb sport facilities at the University while others decided to visit the beautiful Bath city centre.
The pitch near the Sport Training Village had also been transformed into a Thai restaurant. They served Thai food during the whole day, not only to all the participants but also to the international students from the University.
The competition lasted until 6pm when the closing ceremony and the medal presentation were held. Imperial college, London had been at their best and won the overall championship, while BUTA won silver medal, with an impressive performance in Basketball and also getting the bronze medal in Football, lost by a single goal in semi-final! The crowd then travelled back to their home, from a 10-minute journey to Bath city centre to an 8-hour journey up north to Newcastle!
