Preparations for international student orientation

It is getting very busy here in the International Office. We are all working hard to prepare for the new intake of international students - the majority of whom are arriving in 10 days time. We have been emailing the students regularly with information and have set up an International Office facebook account. We will be meeting a number of students at Heathrow airport and transporting them back to Bath on our free coach service. The first few days are then full of activities designed to help students settle into life in Bath and life in the UK, find answers to their questions and meet other international students.

New to the programme this year is an event for parents of our international students including a formal welcome on campus followed by a town tour and tour of the Abbey. We are also keen to encourage all our international students to join in Freshers Week events organised by the Students' Union in order to meet UK students and extend their social networks. There is an Irish Ceileidh, a programme of recently released films, party events and a 'Culture Day' including Salsa taster sessions, World Culture Night and a Big Breakfast in the Chaplaincy! Much of the research suggests that students who are more involved in campus and wider community life are much more satisfied with their overall UK study experience.
