Student Support Services
As a student of the University of Bath, you will have access to a range of support services. They are run by skilled and professional staff and exist to help you with any problems that may occur during your stay. You may be used to asking your family and friends for support and advice. In the UK it is normal practice to seek advice from trained professionals either when you have a problem, or when you need someone to talk to. What you say is strictly confidential.
During your first few days at Bath you will get a booklet with details of all support services and how to contact each of them: The Guide to Student Support Services. Support services include:
- Students' Union AWARE centre
- Disability and Learning Support Service
- Counselling Service
- Peace of Mind support group
- Chaplaincy Centre
- Student Money Service
Counselling Service
The Counselling Service is an informal, friendly and confidential service staffed by professional, male and female counsellors. The Service is for all students - undergraduate and postgraduate. Personal counselling aims to help people explore, define and discover better self-understanding, enables clearer decision making and gives support in an immediate crisis or long-standing problem. A Student Mental Health Worker is also part of our team and can be accessed via one of the counselling staff.
The service is available all year at: Wessex House 8.17, 8.24 and 8.26. For

For further information and self-help resources go visit the counselling webpage.
Peace of Mind
POM is a group lead by Liz Mason, an experienced group facilitator from outside the University. It provides opportunities for students to gain support from each other with issues that are concerning them. For international students this could be, for example, issues related to adjusting to life in another country without the support of family and friends or having to live up to high expectations of achievement from your family. Attending the group will help you to develop coping strategies and build confidence and self-esteem. The group meets on Wednesday from 14:00-15:30. If you would like to find out more about the group, please contact Liz or look into the webpage.
