Help & support
Bath University Students' Union (BUSU)
BUSU aims to provide services, support and opportunities for development for all its members in their time at the University. As a student of the University of Bath you are automatically a member of BUSU - which is part of the National Union of Students (NUS).
BUSU is independent and run by students, for students. Each year elections take place and a new team of sabbatical officers (both full-time and part-time) is elected. Elected sabbatical officers work for the Students' Union for one academic year and carry out the affairs of the Students' Union and implement policies. Professional staff are also employed. BUSU is not run on political grounds.
The Academic and Welfare, Advice and Representation Centre
If personal or other problems are affecting your performance in study and assessment, AWARE can help you by:
- giving information on mitigating circumstances
- giving information on how and when to appeal to your department for a review of your academic results
- representing you at an appeal panel hearing.
AWARE can also help you with:
- changing your course
- problems of accommodation and living arrangements
- balancing a part-time job with your studies
- legal issues, for example in renting private accommodation
- issues of health and welfare
All advice is confidential, non-judgemental and free! If AWARE can't help you they will try hard to find people who can.
Student Groups
BUSU runs groups to help students share experiences:
- The Global Group aims to make all students feel at home by organising events and festivals from around the world. The group organises cultural events and tries to promote awareness about other cultures, beliefs and understandings.
- The Access Group is for students with disabilities, medical conditions and/or learning support needs.
