Health & Safety
Personal Safety
Bath is a safe city but like all cities you have to be sensible. Remember that it is not a good idea to be out alone at night and take precautions:
- walk in well-lit, busy areas and travel home in a group or in a taxi
- If you live on campus and don't have enough money for a taxi home, the Security Office will pay your fare - give them your student card and pay them back the next day
- If you are travelling by bus avoid isolated bus stops, especially after dark. On an empty bus, sit near the driver
- Avoid the area around the Bus Station late at night.
What to do if you are a victim of crime
The police
In an emergency dial 999 and ask for police. On campus dial 666. If the emergency has passed dial 0845 456 7000 (24 hours a day). The police in the UK are friendly and approachable. In matter of harrassment call the police on: 0845 456 7000
Chris Lacey (tel: 01225 842476) works with the police on prejudice-based crimes (known as hate crimes).
Reporting prejudice-based incidents
The International Office is a reporting centre for prejudice-based incidents. Anyone can come to the International Office and report an incident. Trained advisers will listen in confidence and with your agreement, report cases to support organisations and to the police.
