HOST

"HOST is a great opportunity to travel in the country and discover real life in the UK. I arranged to stay with an English family. I had a fantastic weekend. I met a lot of new people, I discovered the traditional Christmas meal and went to Oxford. It allowed me to get in touch with the daily life of a British family. We exchanged many things during this weekend and it was interesting for both me and my hosts."

Where to stay in the UK

Youth Hostels (YHA)

There are more than 200 Youth Hostels in England and Wales and 70 in Scotland, in cities, country and coast. They are cheap, often in beautiful places and good fun. To stay you must join the YHA. The Bath hostel is near to the University on Bathwick Hill or visit www.yha.org.uk.

The HOST programme

HOST brings together international students from universities and colleges in the UK with British people who welcome students into their homes for a short visit. The HOST scheme is free; you only pay for travel to your HOST family. If you would like to participate in the HOST programme visit: www.hostuk.org and apply online.

Apply at least 5 weeks in advance of travelling. If you have a partner and/or children living with you in the UK as your dependants, they can also join in. For more information email: info@hostuk.org, ask to borrow a short video on HOST from the International Office, or visit: www.hostuk.org.
