Introduction to Undergraduate study and admission to University of Bath
Why apply to Bath?
Not all universities are the same and here at Bath we offer something that we have developed and continually update to meet the needs of some students and their potential employers. The courses we offer will not suit everyone, the bioscience field is very diverse and one person’s idea of biology is very different from another’s. It is, therefore, important to find out about us and whether we are right for you.
What we do offer includes:
- Flexibility to switch between subject areas (with certain conditions) up to the end of Year 1.
- The opportunity to undertake a professional placement, being paid to work in an area related to bioscience. (About two-thirds of our students take up this opportunity.)
- A range of Final Year options in modern bioscience areas taught by experts in their field.
- An infra-structure that supports learning and encourages excellence in all areas.
What we do offer does NOT include:
- Choice of Year 1 units. There is a set of subject specific units that are taken and we consider all are essential for the development of a University of Bath graduate.
- Part-time courses. All our provision is geared towards those that are in Full-time study.
- Biomedical Science. Whilst some elements in our courses overlap with Biomedical Sciences, we teach across a broader range of topics and focus on producing graduates that can understand the wider picture. Our degrees are not validated by IBMS.
- Study year abroad. We offer the placement opportunities instead, some of which are abroad.
How to apply to Bath
All applications for undergraduate study must be made through UCAS. Once we receive your UCAS application we proceed in the following way:
- We read in detail every form submitted and select those candidates that we consider are suitable to study with us.
- All UK-based selected candidates are invited to attend an Invitation Day, to hear about and see the Department, its staff and students. This includes a one-to-one interview.
- After attending the Invitation Day, or upon declining to visit, the selected applicant will receive an offer to study with us.
Once in receipt of an offer, applicants can choose to make us the ‘Firm’ (first) choice, the ‘Insurance’ (second) choice or can decline the offer.
In most years over 85% of those who make us their Firm choice secure a place with us.
